988 – Is the designated Suicide and Crisis Lifeline within the United States. It’s very similar to 9-1-1; but, it has been specifically designated to those that are having suicidal thought and ideation, experiencing a mental health crises, or for those that are seeking help for someone else, like a friend or loved one. 988 provides immediate and imminent help, preventing situations from escalating to more severe outcomes like suicide attempts.

The numbers were thoughtfully sought out for ALL to be able to remember. Its purpose is meant to draw out the urgency of addressing mental health immediately and omit escalation of an unfortunate suicide attempt. Someone in need can also text 9-8-8 to reach someone immediately to prevent significant and devastating outcomes and additionally give support to those that need anything related mental health, including local resources they can turn to.

Ironically, 988 was launched and introduced to the United States on the day that Ben took his life, July 16, 2022. 988 has special meaning to our family, and we find it of no coincidence as to why we have been drawn to create and preserve this special website to bring awareness and support towards mental health and suicide prevention.
